Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad): International Workshop – Oslo REDD Exchange 2011, Oslo, Norway

The Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) organize a workshop – Oslo REDD Exchange 2011 – 23-24 June 2011. The workshop will focus on safeguards and REDD+, with a particular emphasis on the exchange of experiences from the field.

Purpose/Objective
The key target groups for the Oslo REDD Exchange 2011 are REDD+ practitioners and technical experts, the scientific community, non-governmental organizations and international organizations that are directly involved in “making REDD+ work”. The Exchange will be informal and participants will attend in their personal capacities. We aim to ensure effective, open and transparent professional communication and exchange of views.

The main focus of the workshop will be on modalities for ensuring that the most important cross-cutting issues are addressed in the most efficient way in REDD+ implementation globally. There is wide concern that if ill-conceived, REDD will finance protection measures that will seriously undermine the livelihoods and rights of forest peoples. These risks are particularly significant for indigenous peoples, women and other marginalized groups. The Oslo REDD Exchange aims to discuss and inform processes on developing REDD+ modalities in the wake of the Cancun Agreement, and work in progress on necessary safeguards for REDD+ implementation. We want to analyze the scope, needs and priorities for improving and strengthening safeguard efforts for REDD+ and discuss core parameters and key considerations for monitoring and reporting in order to inform the processes and negotiations on REDD+, and also to provide assistance and guidance to countries as they begin their efforts to strengthen their efforts for addressing these issues in REDD+.

The organizer will present and discuss existing initiatives, best practice, knowledge and case studies in order to contribute to the identification of core parameters for REDD+ and ways forward. We also aim to review our current knowledge of the drivers and the costs of REDD+ and our emerging sense of feasibility in terms of impacts.

Upcoming Events

This calendar is based on information provided by COMIFAC and the Franco-German support office is considered a complementary event schedule to the official calendar posted on COMIFAC's website. (http://www.comifac.org/events). It offers a broad overview of international and regional events that are directly linked to CBFP's objectives: major conferences and meetings, workshops and training sessions and other activities scheduled by CBFP Facilitation and its member organisations.

Our choice is by no means exhaustive and depends largely on our partners' notice. Every partner organisation is thus welcome to contribute to a rich variety of posted events and to share its schedule with CBFP's Facilitation and the other members! We may also, upon request, forward your input to the COMIFAC webmaster.
