The 2017 edition of "Facts and Figures" is the materialization of our decision to publish reliable and up-to-date information on our sector. Much like previous editions, this document is a summary report on our efforts. The core work of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions has been saved to better track progress and assess ground covered. Your warm reception of previous editions has been very encouraging and made us confident of the choices we made.
The last few years were far from restful. The industry needed defending from contradictory forces looking to keep old stereotypes alive, disseminating bad news resulting from unfortunate errors of judgment and deliberately false analyses. 2017 offers an even brighter picture. Several of our indicators prove us right, and so does the approval of specialized public opinion and men of good faith. In the space of a year, our actions and challenges have gained visibility. We now need to capitalize the gains and maintain our "do and make known” posture, which is implemented through the abundance of informative material produced by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife.
The ongoing implementation of SIGIF 2 (Computerised Forest Information Management System), marked one more step taken in this direction in 2017. Advanced wood processing will be carried out in cooperation with our institutional and private partners. The wildlife sector is not yet rid of the transboundary insecurity prevailing in some parts of our country.
All in all, our sector remains highly promising and is leading the way in advancing the State’s job creation and industrialization policy. The published Facts and Figures bear out this huge potential. Given that the sector is central to the growth and employment strategy, we want to stay the course in the terms of performance levels.
H.E. Mr. NGOLE Philip Ngwese, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife of the Republic of Cameroon
