GCF: Agreement heralds closer GCF-China ties

 

 

Beijing, 15 Mar 2017. The Green Climate Fund has achieved a major milestone in its relationship with China by signing its first Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA) with a Chinese entity.

 

The signing of the AMA with China’s Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) in Beijing on 15 March cements the status of this arm of the Ministry of Environmental Protection as an Accredited Entity.

 

FECO Director General Chen Liang said the AMA signing will help FECO “push forward carbon emission control and low carbon development in key areas to make greater contributions to promoting ecological civilization and improving environmental quality.”

Belgium 16 April 2018. Ghent University, Department of Green Chemistry and Technology and Department of Environment officially joined the members of the Congo Basin Forests Partnership (CBFP). FNUF 13-COMIFAC: The Congo Basin makes strong showing at thirteenth session of United Nations Forum on Forests, UN headquarters, Trusteeship Chamber

New-York, 10 May 2018 - The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations in partnership with the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) and in close collaboration with the CBFP Facilitation of the Kingdom of Belgium held a high-level side event at the UN Trusteeship alongside UNFF 13. The event was chaired by the Republic of Rwanda, which currently holds the Presidency of the Central African Forest Commission.

Ofac-Brief: Making legal timber mandatory for public contracts in Central Africa

Studies conducted over a decade in several countries across Central Africa, particularly in Cameroon, Gabon, Congo and in the DRC, have shown that domestic timber markets are growing rapidly and have gained prominence in terms of volumes exported to Europe or Asia.

AfriquEnvironement-Plus April-May 2018 Edition: Congo Basin Climate commission and Congo Basin Blue Fund now operational

 Following the establishment of COMIFAC in March 1999 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, by the Central African Heads of State, the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Congo Basin Blue Fund held in Brazzaville in late April 2018 ratified the institutionalization agreement of the two instruments. This was not only a true victory, but also a major challenge given that many other sub regional institutions still struggle to operate in their intended capacities.

UN: Promoting decent work ‘daily challenge’ in fragile countries, UN Labour Summit told

The Central African Republic (CAR) has called on the United Nations labour agency to provide special assistance to the conflict-torn nation and make it a “pilot-country” for the implementation of a programme to build peace and resilience through job creation.
