As part of the Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) between Africa and the European Union, the AFD backed by EU funding, has embarked on a string of studies seeking to identify key prerequisites for renewable energy development in Africa, based on three main thrusts:

 

 

    (i) five studies on ENR power fields: wind, solar photovoltaic, concentrated solar power, small and medium hydropower, bio-power and biofuels;

    (ii)an “access” component built on three regional studies on access to electricity (West , East , Central and Southern Africa) and reflection on combustible material and fuels;

    (iii) cross-cutting study on funding tools and professional training.

Deriving Sustainable Value from Wildlife in the Western Congo Basin: Before it’s too late

Wildlife in the Western Congo Basin is rapidly disappearing. The West­ern Congo Basin—WCB, defined here as being composed of Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo—is rap­idly losing a significant proportion of its wild animals to poaching and unsustainable hunting. This trend extends across many species that face pressure from hunting for bushmeat and for commercial export of valuable animal products, as well as habitat degradation.

TRAFFIC: Regional Awareness and Capacity Building Workshop Towards FOCAC 2018

TRAFFIC International and WWF jointly organized a "Regional Awareness and Capacity Building Workshop Towards FOCAC 2018", which took place in Nairobi, Kenya during 19-20 June 2018. The main purpose of the workshop was to sensitize as well as build the capacity of African countries in their preparation for and engagement in the FOCAC 2018 Ministerial Conference and Heads of States and Governments Summit to be held in Beijing, China in September 2018.

Atibt: New edition of Racewood in Gabon WoodShow

On 21 and 22 June, the ATIBT organized the Racewood in Libreville, as part of Gabon WoodShow, the first timber fair in the Congo Basin. ATIBT has decided to take advantage of the launch this year of Gabon WoodShow, Gabon’s first wood and technology show in Gabon, to join the event and hold a new edition of the Racewood.
