Main findings of the sixth session of the CEFDHAC Regional Steering Committee

 

Initiated by the Regional Office of the Regional Steering Committee (CPR), with the technical and financial support of the GIZ " COMIFAC Support" project, the sixth session of the Sub-regional Steering Committee of the Conference on Dense and Humid Forest Ecosystems of Central Africa (CEFDHAC) was held in Bujumbura, Burundi from May 22 to 24, 2014.

 
 The meeting aimed to update the Kigali business plan, with a view to developing strategies and adopting pragmatic measures for promoting the activities of national networks and fora and as well as enhancing CEFDHAC’s dynamism.


 
The gathering drew statutory members of the Regional Steering Committee (CPR), CEFDHAC, representatives of GIZ, the Regional REDD + project and GEF COMIFAC, the PACEBCo Regional Coordination and the project for the establishment of a disaster monitoring and management observatory, as well as CBFP resource persons.
 
 The presentations and discussions conducted during the working sessions provided a forum for participants to put a series of recommendations to certain institutional partners including CEFDHAC, COMIFAC, COBAM and other development partners (GIZ, IUCN , the Regional REDD + project, PACEBO, etc..). The recommendations marked the end of the meeting.

Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park °° Monthly update

The first month of the year and the PMU has already achieved some important results! In January alone, 12 suspects were arrested and transferred to court. Amongst these, three poachers and an ivory buyer were arrested during an operation in the Eastern Sector of the Park. We have also succeeded in removing two war weapons from circulating in these criminal networks. These encouraging results confirm that our ranger units are now, more than ever, capable of dealing with these threats and protecting the Park's extraordinary biodiversity, thanks in a large part to the investment of the PMU and its partners in their training and equipment.

World Pangolin Day in Africa

The WCS Central Africa team are working with partners, local and national, to help combat the trafficking and sale of pangolins and their scales, using a variety of innovative methods by leveraging conservation and law enforcement knowledge. In Congo, pangolins are still sold as meat in markets in urban areas, and trafficked out of the country to neighbouring Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo, despite the national protected species status of two of the three pangolin species found in the country.

COMIFAC: Fourth meeting of decision-making committee of the "Implementing Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing in COMIFAC countries” Project.

Douala, Cameroon, 24 October 2017- the Prince de Galles hotel hosted the fourth meeting of the decision-making committee of the "Implementing Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing in COMIFAC countries” Project. Chaired by Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye, Executive Secretariat of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC), in his capacity as the Committee Chairman, the purpose of the meeting was to validate the financial and technical report (2015-2018) and provide guidelines for the new project.

COMIFAC: Steering Committee of Project for "Promoting conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and measures to combat climate change in COMIFAC countries" assesses level of achievement of activities

Douala, Cameroon - 1 February 2019: The members of the Steering Committee of the Project for "Promoting conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and measures to combat climate change in COMIFAC countries" held their fourth session at the Prince de Galles Hotel. Chaired jointly by the COMIFAC Executive Secretary, Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye, and the Resident Representative of the JICA in Cameroon, Ms. Masuda Junko, who was represented at the meeting by Ms. Kenmiya Misa, Environment Director at the JICA headquarters. the Steering Committee aimed to review the progress of project activities in 2018 and validate the budgeted Annual Work Plan 2019.
