The M&NRV-FAO Project is now online
Since the regional project launch workshop was held in N'Djamena - Chad in September 2012, the MRV project jointly run by COMIFAC and FAO has been deployed in all the COMIFAC countries where its activities include:
♦ Stakeholder awareness raising and training ;
♦ Institutional arrangements;
♦ Developing a national document for preparing the REDD+ (R-PP) strategy for countries with no R-PP;
♦ Establishment of a group to develop the National M &MRV system ;
♦ Submission of National Forest Monitoring Programme to the Council.
Since its highly acclaimed deployment, the project has been working towards its overall goal which is to "support the design and implementation of national monitoring and Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV and M) systems in line with international decisions on REDD + (decision 4/CP.15 and 1/CP.16), with coordination and capacity building at regional level through a so-called "Quick-Start" programme.”
It is in this spirit that the project team has launched the website which is already up and running in order to provide parties with up-to-date information on the progress of project implementation.
This communication tool allows the user to explore the National Monitoring and MRV Systems of the Congo Basin countries in terms of:
♦ Objectives, activities, project progress status
♦ Expected outcomes
♦ Staff and national focal points
♦ Project partners.
