CBFP and UN Central Africa move towards fruitful collaboration in fight against climate change and poaching

 

 

Mr. François-Xavier DE DONNEA, Minister of State of the Kingdom of Belgium, Facilitator of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (PFBC) and his delegation, were received Thursday 7th by the Special Representative / Head of UN Central Africa (UNOCA), Mr. François Louncény Fall.

 

 

The UNOCA Chief and the CBFP Facilitator discussed issues relating to peace and security in Central Africa. Mr. Fall recalled his mandate, highlighting ongoing efforts to address pastoralism and transhumance-related issues, among others.

 

 

The two delegations also touched on prospects for cooperation, notably within the framework of the fight against climate change, poaching and all other cross-border criminal activities.

afrik21-KENYA: Livelihoods Carbon Fund investments increase to €8 million

The Livelihoods Fund, supported by groups such as Veolia, Danone, Hermes, Schneider, etc., is committed to doubling its participation in the project to distribute improved cooking stoves in Kenya, to a total of €8 million. This energy efficiency project aims to improve the living conditions of 600,000 villagers while preserving 2,400 ha of forest.

Green Climate Fund: Central Africa lags behind in climate finance mobilization

The 22nd Board Meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) ended on 28 February 2019 with a range of key decisions aimed at strengthening climate-oriented financing. The Board approved nine new climate resilience and low emission projects. Of the nine (09) projects approved, no Central African country was named as a beneficiary either in the Projects and Programs (FP) category or in the Simplified Approval Process (SAP). Similarly, of the 09 entities whose applications for accreditation were approved by the Council, none originated from a Central African country.

International Day of Forests 2019

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The theme for 2019 is Forests and Education.

Minister of State François-Xavier de Donnea takes part in sub-regional workshop of climate negotiators of the COMIFAC Climate Working Group.

The COMIFAC Climate Working Group held a workshop from 05 to 07 March 2019 in Malabo (Equatorial Guinea). The purpose of the meeting was to decode COP 24, prepare for future events under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and validate the concept notes of regional projects.
