Orientation Note of the 19th CBFP Meeting of Parties, Libreville, 5-8 July 2022 - Program of the week

CBFP celebrates its 20th anniversary and holds its 19th Meeting of the Parties (MoP 19) 5-8 July 2022, Libreville, Gabon

 

Continued implementation of the Declaration of Commitment of COMIFAC Member States to the Central African forests and Call for Equitable Financing and the COP 26 Joint Declaration of Congo Basin Donors: Towards sustainable development with a “Fair Deal” for the Congo Basin Forests, their inhabitants, forests and biodiversities.

 

Proposed venue for MOP 19:

The Gabonese Republic (Libreville) will host the CBFP MoP 19. The CBFP will celebrate its 20th anniversary at this venue.

The dates for the CBFP MoP 19 are 5 to 8 July 2022

 

Structure of the MoP 19

  • Pre-events (including field trips), side events and participant registration

 

Days 1 and 2:

  • Technical Stream – Following the priorities of the Roadmap of the German CBFP Facilitation and the conclusions of the 9th CBFP Governing Council Meeting held in July 2021 in Douala, Cameroon, the following thematic streams will take place : Stream 1: Development - Sustainable Land Use. This theme will be addressed in two sub-streams.Stream 1a: Prerequisites for effective and sustainable land use planning; Stream 1b: Conditions and perspectives for a sustainable timber economy; Stream 2: Biodiversity - The Future of Protected Areas; Stream 3: Landscape Restoration
  • A high-level formal opening of the thematic streams will take place on the morning of MoP 19 day 1 and a closing ceremony will be held on the late morning of day 2.
  • Partner Side Events
  • Exhibition / bazaar / space of ideas: best practices in deciphering international events, presentation of programs, inititaves, and organisations, internalisation, appropriation, launch of new initiatives...

 

The second half of day 2 will be dedicated to:

  • Special format on current issues:
  • Round table on improving and coordinating technical and financial contributions for the Congo Basin
  • Discussion forum on the EU draft legislation on deforestation-free supply chains.

  • Exhibition / bazaar / space of ideas and best practices

 

Day 3 - Policy Segment 1: CBFP Constituency Meeting and 10th CBFP Governing Council Meeting

  • College meetings / thematic days (Civil Society Day, Science Day, Private Sector Day, Regional College / Extraordinary Council of Ministers, Colleges of Donors, INGOs, Multilateral)
  • Inter-college dialogues
  • High-level political dialogue between COMIFAC/CEEAC Ministers (regional college) and Ministers of Partner Countries/donors' college (working lunch)
  • End of Afternoon: CBFP Governing Council Meeting
  • Partner side events
  • Exhibition / bazaar / Sspace of ideas
  • In the evening, the CBFP will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a Gala evening in the presence of former CBFP Facilitators. This will include a retrospective of the past 20 years of CBFP and the CBFP vision for the next 20 years. The celebration of ECOFAC's 30th anniversary will also be acknowledged.

 

Day 4 - Policy Segment 2

  • Inaugural plenary session
  • High-level statement by financial partners
  • Restitution of the work of the streams and colleges/thematic days;
  • Closing high-level political panel with the participation of COMIFAC ministers and other VIPs
  • Closing of the MoP with the reading of the MoP 19 Final Communiqué by the CBFP Facilitator of the Federal Republic of Germany, Honourable Dr Christian Ruck, COMIFAC Goodwill Ambassador.
