Wildlife trafficking threatens many iconic and vulnerable species while putting human health, prosperity and security at risk. Solutions must be as nimble and far-reaching as the criminal networks driving this illegal trade. Since February 2013, Wildlife Trafficking Response, Assessment and Priority Setting (Wildlife TRAPS), an USAID-IUCN project implemented by TRAFFIC, has formed innovative partnerships with diverse stakeholders to counter hunting, trade and consumption of protected wildlife. Wildlife TRAPS built evidence, capacity and strategic alliances that have mobilized thousands of people in the fight against wildlife crime, making wildlife trafficking riskier and less profitable.
In this webinar, representatives of TRAFFIC and its partners will highlight approaches and results in six workstreams: transportation, finance, wildlife forensics, law enforcement and collaboration, demand reduction, and community engagement. Presenters will share how TRAPS is now applying some approaches and partnerships to reducing the pandemic risk of wildlife trade, invite participants to reflect on how these approaches can be applied to other development challenges, and answer questions.
The webinar will be held:
