Libreville to host a major conference on environmental crime and human-wildlife conflict
From July 9 to 12, 2025, Libreville will become the regional hub for strategic dialogue on environmental crime and human-wildlife conflict, during the high-level conference organized by the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), under the facilitation of the French and Gabonese Republics.
A rich and multifaceted program
The conference will kick off on July 9 with a scientific day focused on science-policy dialogue, strategic communication, and the presentation of key reports such as the 2025 Congo Basin Assessment Report. The day will also feature strong civil society engagement and discussions on the Congo Basin Forest Partnership Pact.
On July 10, the official opening session will be followed by a high-level roundtable dedicated to environmental crime and human-wildlife conflict. Thematic workshops will then explore legal and policy frameworks to strengthen environmental governance in the region.
On July 11, discussions will continue with new workshops on capacity building, institutional cooperation, and community-driven initiatives. The day will conclude with the reading of the final communiqué and the closing ceremony.
On July 12, the program continues with a scientific training on academic writing, targeting PhD students and early-career researchers (from July 14 to 17), led by R2FAC.
Side events and networking
Each day will be punctuated with side events, encouraging dialogue between institutions, NGOs, researchers, donors, and local community representatives. Special sessions will focus on pastoral transhumance, eco-security, and the valuation of forest natural capital.
