New call for MEP projects on the surveillance of protected areas

The MEP sub-programme of CEBioS strengthens the capacities of scientists, NGOs, national agencies and local communities in the management of Protected Areas (PAs), which are:

  • essential habitats for local biodiversity,
  • indispensable for ecosystem services contributing to human well-being (food, medicine, energy, etc.),
  • key for carbon storage and adaptation to climate change.

The objectives of the project may vary, but must fall within the following categories:

  • Mobilisation of existing data: Collection and use of biodiversity data in the Protected Area to identify trends and changes.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of biodiversity and ecosystem services: Improvement of monitoring methods and acquisition of quality data, including the establishment of benchmarks and trends.
  • Collaboration and capacity building: Regional and national cooperation between protected areas, consultation and training of PA management teams as well as local communities and indigenous peoples.

Deadline for submission:  5 May 2025.
