The vertebrate, mammal, amphibian, bird, reptile and fish populations reduced by 73% in 50 years.
This alarming figure could be an opportunity to raise awareness in your children on the importance of protecting nature. We give you here below the keys of how to simply explain our Planet Report and inspire them to action today.
For youths, by youths
Biennially, the WWF publishes the Living Planet Report which measures the planet’s health condition. Scientists are observing and counting the different species (plants and animals) living on earth and in the oceans to prove if they decrease or disappear!
It is very important as we need this diversity of living beings to meet our oxygen, potable water or food needs.
The youth edition of the living planet report is a summary of the Living Planet report for adults, written by youths. The idea is to explain in simple words why animal and plant species around us today are endangered and what are possible consequences of this on us, humans. But also, to get the understanding of how to act across adults and children to protect wildlife.
More and More Species Are Disappearing
In 50 years, the number of wild animals has drastically dropped! Among those studied by scientists, vertebrates - the mammal, amphibian, bird, reptile and fish populations have reduced by 73%. This is a great loss! And this is unfortunately caused by us, humans. We use these resources as food, to heat our homes, for entertainment and we occupy more and more space on earth. With no consideration for other species.
The vertebrate population: mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fishes have decreased by 73% in 50 years.
If we keep living leaving out other living beings around us, we may cause them to disappear and if many living beings disappear, way may definitely break the earth’s great equilibrium. It is called the tipping point meaning a boundary which once reached gives room to no turning back to fix things.
Fortunately, there are solutions to prevent that from happening!
Everyone can take action
To preserve a living planet where humans and nature blossom. We should all bend over backwards!
We, governments, companies and individuals should take action and hold accountable those who don't.
