This symposium aims to assess, ten years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the implementation of its three main objectives in sub-Saharan Africa, namely: (i) keeping the increase in global temperature well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, while pursuing efforts to limit the rise to 1.5°C; (ii) increasing adaptive capacity; and (iii) making financial flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.
These objectives are to be achieved on the basis of equity and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, in light of different national circumstances.
