Cooperating for Transformation: Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships for Landscape-Level Biodiversity Conservation

In the face of growing environmental challenges, the European Union is betting on synergy between actors to ensure effective, sustainable, and integrated biodiversity conservation in Central Africa.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, in Salle Franceville at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Libreville (Gabon), the European Union will host a side event on the margins of the Regional Conference on Environmental Crime and Human-Wildlife Conflict, organized by the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) on July 10–11.

This event aims to showcase the approaches and results of three flagship EU-supported programmes contributing to biodiversity conservation in Central Africa:
• NaturAfrica
• The Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme
• The GUARD Wildlife project

The EU is implementing a diverse portfolio of actions in Central Africa that combine the protection of fragile ecosystems with the sustainable development of local communities. This work is based on a holistic and integrated "landscape approach", going beyond protected areas to include buffer zones, ecological corridors, surrounding villages, and governance systems.

Objectives of the event:
• Highlight the complementarity of programmes and approaches
• Showcase the strength of multi-stakeholder partnerships
• Share practical experiences from local to global levels
• Demonstrate how these programmes contribute to biodiversity preservation, rule of law, and equitable, sustainable development

This exchange will offer a constructive dialogue space, aligned with the priorities of Central African states and the EU’s international commitments.
