towards a Political Declaration for the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin
🌍 6th meeting of CBFP members: towards a historic political declaration for the Congo Basin!
Libreville, Gabon – 23 and 24 October 2025
The Congo Basin, the world's second largest tropical rainforest, is a vital ecological lung. It is home to exceptional biodiversity, supports the livelihoods of more than 80 million people and plays a key role in regulating the global climate, absorbing 4% of annual carbon emissions.
In 2025, the members of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) – governments, regional organisations, technical and financial partners – are mobilising to adopt a Political Declaration at COP30 in Belém (Brazil). This declaration aims to strengthen the conservation and sustainable management of the Congo Basin's forest ecosystems.
📍 In Libreville, on 23 and 24 October 2025, the 6th CBFP meeting, co-facilitated by France and Gabon and organised with the United Kingdom and Germany, will bring together 70 participants to:
✅ Consolidate regional ambitions
✅ Align national priorities
✅ Establish a roadmap for coordinated action and monitoring of commitments
👥 Who is participating?
Institutional actors: Ministries of climate, environment, forests, finance, agriculture, and regional institutions (COMIFAC, ECCAS, CEMAC, etc.)
Technical and financial partners: donors, development banks, philanthropic foundations, experts, researchers, and financial platforms
Civil society and NGOs: key players in climate, biodiversity, and the environment
Scientific community: experts, researchers, academic institutions, and development partners for scientific objectives
🌱 Why is it important? The Congo Basin is a global common good. Protecting it is essential to combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring a sustainable future for local populations.
