Call for Applications: Fully Funded CBSI 2025 Master’s Scholarships

The Science for the Congo Basin Initiative (CBSI) is launching a call for applications for fully funded Master’s scholarships to support scientific research projects focused on conservation, ecology, sustainable forest management, and sustainable development in the Congo Basin region.

What the scholarships cover:

  • University tuition fees
  • Monthly living allowance
  • Funding for research expenses (equipment, fieldwork, travel)
  • High-quality training in an interdisciplinary and inclusive research environment

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be enrolled in the first year of a Master’s program (Master 1) for the 2024-2025 academic year and preparing to start Master 2 in 2025-2026
  • Be a national of one of the following countries: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, or Republic of Congo
  • Be motivated by the collection and analysis of scientific data to support innovative conservation and sustainable development policies in the Congo Basin
  • Be enrolled in a higher education institution authorized and participating in the initiative

Duration:
12 months of training and research, followed by 12 months to write a dissertation project in the form of a published scientific article.

Eligible projects (examples):

  • Forest ecology and biodiversity
  • Sustainable water resource management and hydrology
  • Impact of climate change on Congo Basin ecosystems
  • Monitoring and modeling of hydrological flows
  • Forest mapping and deforestation
  • Interaction between aquatic and terrestrial fauna

Application deadline: August 21, 2025, at 4:00 PM (Kinshasa time)

Complete applications and supporting documents must be submitted online via the official CBSI portal before this deadline. Candidates will be evaluated based on academic merit and motivation for the research project.

Selection process:

  • Evaluation of applications
  • Interviews in September 2025 for shortlisted candidates
  • Results notification shortly after the interviews
