Regional Conference on Environmental Crime and Human-Wildlife Conflict: A Strategic Mobilization in Libreville
At the joint initiative of the French and Gabonese Republics, Co-Facilitators of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), and in close collaboration with the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), a regional conference on environmental crime and human-wildlife conflict will be held in Libreville on 10–11 July 2025.
This gathering will bring together key stakeholders from Central Africa, along with international partners committed to combating natural resource-related crime and promoting the sustainable management of ecosystems. The event will serve as a strategic dialogue platform for policymakers, practitioners, scientists, donors, and civil society representatives.
In the lead-up to the main conference, several key events will take place on 9 July, including a CBFP Governing Council meeting, discussions on the future of the Congo Basin Pledge, a Science-Policy Day, and a civil society forum. These side events aim to enrich the discussions, strengthen collective action, and contribute to the development of key recommendations.
The main sessions of the conference will address critical challenges such as poaching, wildlife trafficking, and increasing interactions between human communities and wildlife. Innovative solutions will be presented, illustrated by concrete examples from across the region.
Networking spaces, an exhibition center, side events, and a field visit will complement the program, encouraging knowledge-sharing and the exchange of experiences.
The conference follows up on recommendations from the 20th Meeting of the CBFP Parties, held in June 2024 in Kinshasa, and marks a significant step toward a collective and coordinated response to the pressing environmental challenges threatening biodiversity and sustainable development in Central Africa.
Organized with the support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the conference is implemented by the French Development Agency (AFD) and Expertise France, with the support of the Republic of Gabon.
