Douala Hosts Consultation for a Joint Declaration on Central African Forests

The Congo Basin forests, the world’s second green lung, are at the heart of discussions in Douala on August 28–29, 2025.

Stakeholders in the sustainable management of Central African forests are meeting in Douala to prepare a Joint Declaration ahead of the COP 30 Climate Summit in Belém. The goal is clear: to secure sustainable and equitable financing for forest conservation while strengthening the region’s economic development.

The agenda includes validating the draft Joint Declaration, presenting lessons learned from the Congo Basin Pledge, examining an innovative financial mechanism, and amplifying the voice of Indigenous Peoples.

This consultation marks a major step forward: Central Africa is organizing to speak with one voice and defend its forests in Belém  for the sake of the planet and future generations.
