African Wildlife at Risk: A Threatened Future for Iconic Species

Africa’s forests and savannas, home to unique biodiversity, are under increasing pressure. CIFOR-ICRAF highlights the urgent need to protect elephants, gorillas, and lions, whose survival is jeopardized by deforestation and habitat fragmentation.

In this article, CIFOR-ICRAF presents findings from its research on the threats facing African wildlife. Loss of natural habitats, ecosystem fragmentation, and human pressures endanger the continent’s iconic species.

The institute emphasizes the importance of adopting conservation strategies based on robust scientific evidence and promoting cross-border collaboration. CIFOR-ICRAF plays a central role: by generating and sharing knowledge, it supports policymakers and local communities in implementing sustainable practices that can reverse biodiversity loss trends and maintain ecological balance.
