Kribi, 20 June 2025 – The first regional forum on the conservation of critical forest landscapes was held in Kribi, Cameroon, bringing together over five days key actors from the Congo Basin, the Guinean Forests, and the Amazon.
Organized by UNEP and Conservation International in collaboration with COMIFAC, the event strengthened South-South cooperation around integrated programmes funded by the GEF.
Participants shared concrete solutions ranging from community-led restoration to the integration of traditional knowledge into national forest policies. Cameroon highlighted the central role of local communities, while regional bodies such as ECOWAS and COMIFAC were called upon to harmonize forest governance frameworks.
The forum concluded with a shared roadmap to improve governance, data-sharing, and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
