Conference on Environmental Crimes and Human-Wildlife Conflict: A must-to attend event for Congo Basin

Regional and international actors all gathered in Libreville to build sustainable solutions against environmental crimes and human-wildlife conflicts.

Specialists, decision makers and international actors shall all meet from 10 - 11 July 2025 in Libreville, Gabon for the Conference on Environmental Crimes and Human-Wildlife Conflict. Organised by the French and Gabon, Congo Basin Forest Partnership co-facilitators, this conference is supported by the COMIFAC and the ECCAS and the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The event is implemented by the French Development Agency (AFD) and Expertise France with logistic assistance from the Republic of Gabon.

A Conference to address environmental challenges

This conference aims to gather key actors in Central Africa and worldwide to discuss urgent stakes related to environmental crimes, illegal deforestation and increasing conflicts between humans and wildlife. By gathering experts and decision makers, the event aims to find sustainable solutions to the threads looming on Congo Basin forests, a vital heritage for global climatic equilibrium.

Side events to enrich discussions

Several events shall be organised on Wednesday, 9 July 2025:

  • 17th Meeting of CBFP’s Governing Council
  • Meeting on the heir to the Congo Basin Pledge
  • Scientific Day  – Political science dialogue
  • Civil society Day

These side events shall offer unique opportunities to deepen debates, share ideas and explore innovative solutions. They shall equally allow participants to discuss best practices and progress towards practical solutions.

A Collaboration and Discussion Space

The event shall offer spaces dedicated to networking, learning and information sharing. An exhibition centre will be set up with a capacity of about 10 exhibitors, while a site visit will enable participants to directly discover the challenges in the field.    This dynamic setting shall ease idea sharing and the implementation of solid partnerships.

A Crucial Moment for the Congo Basin

About 350 participants are expected to attend this high-level conference. It is the opportunity for actors of the Congo Basin and beyond brainstorm on how to protect this precious ecosystem. The results of this meeting could inspire future conservation strategies and reinforce international cooperation for a sustainable future.
