DRC: Transition at the Ministry of Environment

Eve Bazaiba hands over to Marie Niange Ndambo

After four years at the helm of the State Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Eve Bazaiba Masudi, a prominent figure in the Sama Lukonde Kyenge government, has handed over to Marie Niange Ndambo.

Her tenure was marked by a strong presence on the national and international stage, with notable interventions on climate, forestry, and environmental issues.

This transition comes as the DRC, home to one of the world’s largest forest basins, continues its efforts to balance natural resource preservation with sustainable development.

The Ministry’s teams have welcomed this handover and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the sector’s challenges in continuity with ongoing initiatives.

From the forest, Bazaiba moves to arid lands – ENVIRONEWS-RDC
She is one of the emblematic figures of the Sama Lukonde Kyenge and Judith Sumina governments. Eve Bazaiba Masudi, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Environment and Sustainable Development of the DRC, has finally completed her term in this position. She is replaced by Marie Niange Ndambo. As she came, so she leaves, leaving behind only tweets and political speeches. During her 4 years at the head of this ministry, “Mother” leaves the forest for the arid lands. Within the ministry, staff and officials exclaim in unison: “Aaah akeyi, finally…” Behind her, not a single financed project, not a single franc mobilized for the nation.

Bazaiba leaves behind an entire chapter of history at the ministry. Known for her spectacular and striking statements, the former Minister of State nevertheless stood out among her peers for her distinctive manner.

A true stage director, Bazaiba could be compared to great Hollywood filmmakers. Many still remember the alleged disappearance of her son during the Kabila regime.
