“THE HERDS: The global artistic journey to raise awareness on the impacts of climate change begins in Kinshasa”

‘THE HERDS, a global public art show, embarks on a 20,000km journey from Kinshasa to raise awareness on the devastating impacts of climate change on wildlife and communities.’

The HERDS project, a global public art initiative to raise awareness of climate issues, began its 20,000 km journey from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo on 12 April 2025.

This project involves life-size puppets representing animals running the devastating impact of climate change.  The aim is to inspire the global audience to reconnect with nature and to support significant climate actions before the COP30 in Brazil.

WWF supports this initiative, which illustrates communities already affected by climate change, and aims to inspire empathy and action through public art. The puppets created from recycled material will be animated by the locals, trained to take part in public art performances and educative workshops around the world. This project highlights the urgency of the climatic situation and the interconnection between climate change and biodiversity loss.
