
As part of the regional conference organized by the CBFP in Libreville on July 10–11, 2025, five thematic workshops will provide a space for constructive dialogue and will help generate concrete solutions to address the dual challenges of environmental crime and human-wildlife conflict in Central Africa.
⚖️ Workshop 1 – Strengthening Institutional and Legal Frameworks
Led by: UNODC, TRAFFIC, End Wildlife Crime
This workshop will explore existing legal and institutional frameworks, identify gaps in implementation, and formulate concrete recommendations to improve legal responses at national, regional, and global levels.
🤝 Workshop 2 – Enhancing Cooperation to Fight Environmental Crime
Led by: INTERPOL, GiTOC
This session will highlight best practices in law enforcement cooperation and information sharing. It will also address the role of civil society and the challenges faced by whistleblowers, journalists, and human rights defenders in this space.
🧠 Workshop 3 – Building Capacity and Improving Training
Led by: The Royal Foundation, Wildlife Angel
The workshop will focus on equipping key stakeholders with flexible and context-appropriate tools, covering both prevention and response. It will also emphasize the need to engage businesses and financial institutions in breaking the chain of environmental crime.
🐘 Workshop 4 – Strengthening Policies and Science-Policy Dialogue on Human-Wildlife Conflict
Led by: FAO, COMIFAC, EPI, IUCN, Gabon
This session will aim to improve public responses through the use of reliable data and better strategic dialogue among stakeholders. It will encourage coherent policy frameworks and stronger connections between science and governance for lasting coexistence between people and wildlife.
🛠️ Workshop 5 – Mechanisms for Managing and Monitoring Human-Wildlife Conflict
Led by: WWF, ANPN
This workshop will analyze current approaches to managing human-wildlife conflict in the Congo Basin, highlight their limitations, and propose sustainable, community-based strategies. It will also explore financing mechanisms to address growing challenges, particularly those linked to climate change.
