Communication as a Key Tool for the Congo Basin
From April 22 to 25, 2025, Brazzaville hosted the first edition of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum for the Development of Environmental Communication and Information (FOMADECIE-BC), gathering over 200 experts, journalists, and civil society actors around the theme “Communication as a Strategic Tool for Conservation and Climate Change Mitigation”. The event, held under the high patronage of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, emphasized the essential role of the Congo Basin in global climate regulation and the need for effective communication to protect this vital ecosystem.
Organized by Afrique Environnement Plus in partnership with institutions such as COMIFAC, PFBC, and UNDP, the forum provided a platform to discuss the role of communication in conservation strategies. Training sessions and dialogues addressed key issues, including deforestation, green finance, and the role of the media in citizen mobilization.
The Minister of the Environment, Mrs. Arlette Soudan-Nonault, and the Minister of Forest Economy, Mrs. Rosalie Matondo, highlighted the importance of integrating communication into sustainable development projects and engaging the press more effectively in international discussions on forest preservation.
The forum concluded with a tree planting event in Kintélé and the adoption of the Brazzaville Declaratio (pdf - 10.13 Mi)n, a roadmap to strengthen environmental communication and support the sustainable management of the Congo Basin’s forests.
