Putting Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities and Afro-descendant Peoples at the centre of forest protection: building direct funding mechanisms that wor
At least 55% of the world’s forests are on Indigenous Peoples‘ ancestral land, yet IPLCs and Afro-descendent peoples only receive a fraction of global climate funding.
COP30 in Belém is the place to reaffirm our commitment to halt and reverse deforestation by 2030. To do so, the international community should listen to forest peoples’ voices and find lasting solutions in partnership with them.
Organised by Fern with the support of the CFBP, the event will spotlight innovative community-led financing models from the world’s three largest forest basins including the Congo Basin.
The event will be moderated by Tyala Ifwanga, Forest Governance Campaigner at Fern, who will introduce the topic and engage inspiring speakers from the Nusantara Fund (Indonesia), Integrated Development and Learning (IDL), the REPALEAC (Réseau des Populations Autocthones et Locales pour la gestion durable des Ecosystèmes Forestiers d’Afrique) and also the Fondo Territorial Mesoamericano in a lively dialogue.
Join us on November 12 @FOREST PAVILLON to explore effective, inclusive, and equitable approaches to forest protection and truly support those who have safeguarded the planet’s most vital ecosystems for generations.
Interpretation will be provided from French to English.
